An open letter of thanks from Markel Insurance

August 24, 2010

It has been said that, in tough times, the trucking industry will always look after one of their own. This past July, a number of Markel customers exemplified this statement by assisting Markel in raising money for an important cause.

Ryan Gallaher, the son of an employee at International Truckload Services (ITS), was seriously injured in a motorcycle crash in Vietnam, where he was teaching English. Ryan’s mother, Lisa, and the rest of his family incurred substantial debt in their efforts to have him brought home to be with them while he tried to recover.

To help lessen this debt, Markel donated 100% of the proceeds from all training provided during the week of July 19th to 24th, 2010 inclusive to the family.

Twenty-five carriers stepped up to help by participating in a training course that week and, because of their generosity, Markel raised a total of $10,356 for Ryan’s family.

Sadly, Ryan passed away at the beginning of August. Despite this loss, it’s important to note that Ryan was surrounded by his family and friends at home, in Canada, when it happened.

Markel would like to thank the following carriers who participated in our fundraising campaign for this worthy cause:
