Personal Information

Personal Information is information about an identifiable individual. This includes information about the products and services you subscribe to. Publicly available information, such as your name, title, business address, business telephone number, and eMail address (i.e., information on a business card), is not considered to be Personal Information.

This Markel.ca website and all of its subdomains including, but not limited to, broker.markel.ca and policyholder.markel.ca (collectively and individually referred to as the “Website”) is operated by Markel Insurance Company of Canada ("Markel"). This Privacy Policy is intended to set out Markel's practices regarding the collection, use, and disclosure of Personal Information pertaining to you that you may provide to Markel via this Website.

While registering to use either any services provided through the Website (including, but not limited to, the Broker Centre and Policyholder Centre), Markel may collect information that is not considered your Personal Information such as your name, title, business address, business telephone number, eMail address and other relevant business information required by Markel to conduct business with you. It is possible that some of the information that you submit to Markel may be considered your Personal Information under Canadian law.

By using this Website, you hereby agree with the terms of this Privacy Policy and consent to the collection, use and disclosure of your Personal Information in accordance with this Privacy Policy.

Collection of Information

Markel only collects your Personal Information when and if you register and sign-up for access to the password protected areas of the Website. Markel also collects any of your Personal Information that is found in any eMail or enquiry form that you send to us.

Use and Disclosure of Information

Your Personal Information is collected, disclosed and used for the sole purpose of allowing you to exchange information between yourself and Markel, conduct business online with Markel, access the Broker Centre and submit what Markel refers to as "Surveys for Small Fleet Risks". Markel does not disclose any of your Personal Information to any third parties, except as required by law.
 
Markel collects personal information only for the following purposes:

(a) to establish and maintain commercial relations with you and provide you with ongoing service;
(b) to understand your needs and eligibility for products & services;
(c) to recommend particular products & services to meet your needs;
(d) to develop, enhance, market or provide products and services; and,
(e) to meet legal and regulatory requirements

Your personal information will not be used for any other purpose without your consent.

Security

Markel takes reasonable precautions to protect your Personal Information. In all cases, information is retained in secure facilities, protected from unauthorized access and kept only as long as is reasonably required.

Unfortunately no data transmission over the Internet can be guaranteed to be 100% secure. As a result, Markel does not represent, warrant, covenant or guarantee that your Personal Information transmitted over the Internet will be protected against loss, misuse or alteration and does not accept any liability for Personal Information lost, misused or altered during such transmission.
 
Access and Correction

Once logged into your user account on the Website, if applicable, Markel provides you with access to any Personal Information that has been collected by Markel. If any of the Personal Information is inaccurate or out of date you are able to make changes by choosing the option to view or edit your profile and modifying the appropriate information. This information can also be modified by calling 1-888-MARKEL-1 and having a Customer Service Representative modify this information for you. You may also request that your Personal Information be removed from Markel's system and your login and password be eliminated by terminating your access to the Website in accordance with the Terms of Use or Secure Broker Centre Agreement (as may be applicable).

Cookies Policy

During user interaction with Markel’s Websites, Markel may use a browser feature called a 'cookie' to collect information anonymously concerning website user patterns.
